The Second Severn Crossing is 3.2 miles long and uses a cable-stayed design for the central section over The Shoots. It was opened in June 1996 and it cost £3.80 for a car - it's now free! I went over it in a thunderstorm the day after it opened, with lighting striking the towers, quite a sight.
